Designing Decisions

My designing was chosen by , well i decided i was going to do the cover page because it seemed easier and not as hard to figure out. I chose the colors because well, Blue is one of our schools colors . I figured that the white would go best with the blue because that's what can fit the best ,and it stands out from the rest of the colors that would go along with the blue color. I Chose the pictures because i figured that if  i use the pictures of the building on the cover page, simply because it is the cover page. The Cover page i think should basically be about what the school looks like, the name (obviously) and the Year on it . The Shapes i chose where chosen because I think that they should be different shapes instead of normal shaped to be different then all of them.

The State of Affairs: A Plan for Revising Pages Leading up to Portraits

I enjoyed reading comments especially those posted by Mirissa, Crystal and Yilcaly.

I believe a common mistake made was that the title page was often referred to as the cover.

You all have some good ideas about improving our current draft; the next step is to put your plans into action. Rather than having each group revise all seven pages I think we need to reassign spreads and finalize pages leading up to the portraits. This may include but is not limited to the following: fix and move the administrators' pages, make type/font uniform, add candid shots and get quotes (this may require brainstorming interview questions or prompts); next, the "Teachers Gone Wild" spread may be reduced to one page and have the shared/opposite page focus on students at the dance, include captions and possible feature about the event; are there enough trip pics for a spread? Ms. Blatteau and her students took an abundance of good pics at the Yale Art Gallery yeaterday; make a plan for covering spirit week; continue getting coverage, we need more pictures of different students.

All groups are to submit/save practice pages by the end of the period. Briefly reflect on who did what in a blog post here.

yearbook

I like the yearbook but there can be some changes made. For example the staff can be in the front instead of middle or back. i want the yearbook to be entertaining & fun so people can buy it ! also other than that its fine

yearbook review

I would suggest that the administrators page be moved to the back of the yearbook I would also suggest that our cover page be changed to a kind of scrap book that illustrates our fun times at metro . And in conclusion instead of listing our number of students on the cover of our year book I would also suggest that we moved that to another section of the yearbook perhaps a page about our school or the history of our school.

yearbook

year book review

first of all i love the cover, its better than last years it just needs our address.

on page 4 all we need is more pictures of clubs and activities that are happening this year not last years programs. we should just get rid of everything we used in last years book.

and on the last two pages, its good. all we need is more captions that students wont find corny or dumb.

yearbook evaluation on the sample pages

The cover of the yearbook looks good. I like how it has that one picture of the hallway. It makes it look mysterious. One thing that could be changed is the i3: thing. We need a new title though. On the second and third page i think we should the administrators on one page. Maybe for the third page we should put a brief history of the old school to the new school. On the pages that we have left over we should have the field trips pictures. One of the weaknesses of the yearbook is that we don't have enough pictures of anything yet. We also should become a little more aware of the students so we can start labeling more

Group Members & What we can do .

Group: Mirissa,Isaiah,Kenny.

Mirissa is typing

Title page , we have to change the metropolis and the number of students have changed .
On the Administration page we should , Fix the fonts so they match . Put the picture in it.
Next page , The words are latin and somebody has to fix it so they are in English .
But the good things in the yearbook so far are that overall the cover and pages are good they just need to fix them up some and it should be fine. Now that we have the portraits now we can make it even better by adding the portraits and decorating it. We just need to pick up the pace and start , and take more pictures of students working , and after school activities . Once we get all the pictures, and everything settled then
we can place them in and put them all together.

Self-assessment and Cooperative Learning

Do Now: Get into pairs or small groups (no larger than four). Meet at the tables to review sample pages one through seven, those currently leading up to the portraits pages.

Next, assign the role of notetaker and begin to list the pro's and con's of our yearbook as it exists today. Brainstorm solutions and group member roles. Post to blog.

Assignment: On Monday, December 19 each group will begin presenting their revised yearbook pages one through seven.

staff profile: alexander chow-yen

Junior Alexander Chow-yen's most memorable Metro moment was when Metropolitan school switched buildings from Blake Street [Leeder Hill in Hamden] to [its current location] at 115 Water Street , he mentioned that he was overly-excited about the new move and couldn't wait to see how things would go in the new atmosphere of learning.

When Alexander was asked what his favorite hobbies were , he quickly blurted out to me FOOTBALL! Anxious to tell me why, he mentioned that it's a way to relieve his anger in a positive way and that he's been playing this sport for three years now and wishes to continue playing during college. As the interview continued my curiosity for Alexander's future began to ponder in my mind so i quickly asked him...

What are your plans for the future? He took a brief pause and thought to himself for a moment as he rubbed his bearded chin and looked up in the air as if he were dazing at the stars and said I would  like to go to college for computer sciences. As we began to wrap up this interview my last question to Alexander was " If you could invite anyone to dinner living or dead who would it be and why?"

He then took a long sigh and said, "My grandmother." His facial expression quickly changed , he looked down at the shiny white tiled floor and looked at himself in the reflection of the floor as if he could imagine his grandmothers warm face and elaborated on to say, "There's just so many things I never knew about her that if she were still alive I would love to sit down and talk to her."

Welcome to FKM, Metro's Yearbook Blog

What is the Metro story? I know I hear too often that nothing is happening here at Metro; I find his both disheartening and difficult to believe. Maybe some story ideas will emerge if we begin using some of our class time to blog. I know for a fact that there are some members of this class who have prior experience with blogger using it either independently or for other classes and claim to enjoy it. Hopefully your enthusiasm for the medium will not wane once your writing becomes more directed.
