The Sound Track of Our Lives

Yearbook
5.21.2012

Objective: SWBAT...
1. Draft creative personal compositions that incorporate a variety of sensory details.
2. Make text-to-self connections using popular song as text.

One of the things that was most lacking with our yearbook this past year was text. We had a few solid captions but no real features. In service to future yearbooks I ask that those of you who have completed your All About Me spreads using yearbookavenue think (and write about) the role music plays in your lives.

What song by what artist best captures the 2011-2012 school year? Explain.

What songs by various artists do you associate with specific past years of your lives?

What musical artist whose career you have followed has demonstrated growth as a artist at pace with that of own development as a young adult? Explain.

Finally, either using images from our class library or your own personal images (school appropriate/shareable) construct a slide show set to/that mirrors the tone of a specific musical selection.

  2. i think the song of the year is "meek millz amen". i say this because this song expresses the way meek millz life and how he gets down with the lord and this relates to this school year is similar to my school year because everybody here in metro expresses how they feel everyday just by being thereselfs.

  3. It's funny; I don't really know the lyrics, but I think "We Are Young" does have an anthem-like quality to it. In doing a little research I found that it was originally released on my birthday. Additionally, it drives one of my senior English students crazy. Another one of my students who shall remain nameless (although he was once a part of this class) was aggravating her by singing it and getting it stuck in her head.

I didn't realize it was used in a Chevy Super Bowl commercial. What would you say is the tone and or mood of the song?

  4. Meek Millz is a name I have heard many times; however, I have never wittingly heard any of his raps. Where is a good starting point for someone ignorant of his music? Would you start with "Amen" or somewhere else? Explain.

  8. Dave,

I just read the lyrics to "Amen"; not quite school appropriate is it? Would you want your grandmother in the audience were it playing over the loud speaker at your graduation?

  9. A popular song this year was Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera . I think this because everyday it was on the radio and millions of downloads everyday. i think it is a good song and the lyrics are good lyrics. Songs i associated with from many years well , i like michael jackson so a good song to me was the way you make me feel, and man in the mirror. & The motto by drake, Super bass by Nicki Minaj , Set fire to the rain by adele , we are young and many more songs . A musical artist i have followed throughout their career is Britney Spears and how she changed throughout her life . She had drastic changes and a lot of things . Like when she shaved her head , to having kids , getting divorced and a lot of things. From her first album with Oops! i did it agin , to her recent album with Criminal...
