1. Draft creative personal compositions that incorporate a variety of sensory details.
2. Make text-to-self connections using popular song as text.

One of the things that was most lacking with our yearbook this past year was text. We had a few solid captions but no real features. In service to future yearbooks I ask that those of you who have completed your All About Me spreads using yearbookavenue think (and write about) the role music plays in your lives.

What song by what artist best captures the 2011-2012 school year? Explain.

What songs by various artists do you associate with specific past years of your lives?

What musical artist whose career you have followed has demonstrated growth as a artist at pace with that of own development as a young adult? Explain.

Finally, either using images from our class library or your own personal images (school appropriate/shareable) construct a slide show set to/that mirrors the tone of a specific musical selection.

My All About Me

 My all about me spread has to do with me because on the left side it has to do about things i like like tv shows celebrities  and cartoon characters . On the right side it is a few pictures of me with my friends on the first week of spirit week . The back round is pink which is my favorite color and the writing on it is orange which is my other favorite color .  thats all about me ....

State Bill 24

The State Bill 24 states that it will increase the rigor in classrooms, increase the seat time and lengthen the school day and year. There are so many reasons why that plan wont work. I find the plan alittle disturbing. Well one: This plan might not be effective for all students.
                When most kids sit for a long period of time they get irratated. They have to move around.
     Two:    A longer school year? What about vacation?
                 A longer school year is not a good idea because sometimes you need a break from school to go on a vacation with your family. It might also not be a long enough vacation to enjoy if the school year increases.

It's not a good idea. So I think the governor should sit down and rethink this plan over. He also needs to think about what some parents and students think about this. Most of all, he needs to think about the people who have tro teach the kids. Teachers need a break from the students sometimes. The summer helps them relax and prepare their plans for the next school year. It also helps them think about how they can improve their teaching better.

Education reforms

Well, there has been some pretty amazing topics in the news, but the most popular one now is on education reforms. An article I read in New Haven Independent  called "Teachers Rally Collegues" [written by the staff of NHI] was an interesting article.

           " Good intentions, wrong plan" was a line that stood out to me in this article. The reason it stood out was because I agree. The governor has good intentions on trying to make New Havens children have a better education but he is approching it the wrong way. See, to me, it seems like the governor is being too hard on some teachers. The teachers and students each have obligations to fufill. We need 50 -50 from staff and students and 100 from the parents. The teachers do their jobs everyday. Thats 50 from them, but what about the parents and students. The parents are voicing their concerns but they are not doing anything about it.If parents get more involved at helping their children in school, they will get better results

My memorable learning experience

A memorable learning experience for me would be last year when I went to the science expo. My class and I did a project about cuttle fish. I bought my niece with me that day. The reason why it was so memerable was because she got to learn and see things she had never seen. She also made some friends. The biggest part I got out of that day is that I should be more of an example for her because she's watching everything I do.

My Design page

I designed my page by adding pictures of students in the school , also by making sure that everybody gets to be in the yearbook at least once . Also , I'm trying to put more pictures in it so a lot Od people. An buy it this year .

I think page 10 should be Something different&  the other pages should be different.

My Experience with Biographies

My experiences with biographies. Well i wrote a few and i have read a few. i have read the biography of fredrick douglass and i've read some about celebrities i like . Sometimes i find them boring , but depending on the person. I've also wrote a few biographies , mostly for projects . I wrote one about Michael Jackson , for a school project .  Which i liked that one because i choose him because he is one of my top favorite singers. I also have written one about myself because people wanted to know about me . I've wrote about myself on my blog for school and my blog on tumblr. I like writing them more way more than i like reading them because writing them is a lot more fun than reading them. I like writing them because it lets me know more about the people i write about.

What does it mean to be a part of Metro staff?

My job as a apart of the Metropolitan yearbook staff is to help capture the memorable moments at our school. All though many may think this this job is a piece of cake Im hear to tell you that it isn't! My peers and I all come together as one to agree to disagree on many topics and decisions that are brought to us.There are many days that I would like to quit and drop out of this class and just give up but when I see the great results that can come out of our hard work it makes me feel honored to be able to say that I am a part of the metropolitan staff.

 i had some experiences with biographies. ive read some about Fredrick Douglass and Rosa Parks and about the wars and thing like that. i guess writing diaries is writing biographies or maybe autobiography. i have done some past experience with being in yearbook in my old school too. but thats it

Alex's Bio

As a student I have many experiences with biographies. I have read, written, and revised biographies on several different occasions of my life as a student. Being a student at Metropolitan over the last year has had its ups and downs. I have gone through the life of an average New Haven student. Students that began school with me have declined and now I've seen some become statistics. Some have had children, some have went to jail, and some have simply dropped out. With my own eyes I experienced life taking hold of people who made the wrong choices. It has pushed me to continue to be in school and it has allowed me to be where I'm at now.

Our Story and Biography

My experience with biography is that i use to do them my freshmen year and my sophmore year when i had to do projects and i did autobiography my freshmen year but then after that i didn't no more of it and although i stop doing biographys and a autobiographys im renetering the world of it for the yearbook at metro.

The Current State of our story by Mirissa & Kenny

 Our Story so far seems pretty okay . i think now that the portraits are in we could finish them completely & then our yearbook will be a lot better and not how it was . I think that the cover page i made was pretty okay it needs to be fixed like take away some things but mostly it's good. Once that's fixed  then my page then we just have to add the pictures and fix it up , figure out what pages the seniors have , Spirit weeks and all fun stuff. Put things in order & all then finish it . Once we complete it i think it is going to be a pretty good yearbook .

The Current State of OUR STORY by Mr. Monahan

Before going into too much critical analysis of our yearbook thus far, I would like to comment on how pleased I was with the way staff members handled last week's meeting with Josten's representative Ms. Carina Alfano. I would especially like to recognize the lead roles taken on by Kevin Grimes, Jymisha Freeman, Crystal Ashley and Alexander Chow-Yen in making decisions regarding our cover.

Next, I would like to commend Mirissa on our current title page. I like how in contrast to our cover it incorporates our school colors. If I were to offer suggestions to improve it, they would be possible shots that include people and to alter the black bold outline around the banner shot. It's not that I object to the outline itself; however, it seems out of place/not uniform.

Anjelica's "Back to School" spread on pages 4 and 5 are off to a great start. I really like her choices of color and background. She also includes a wide variety of shots by type and by people.

"Teachers Gone Wild" on page 7 makes good use of the three-part caption; however, page 6 is obviously under-developed to non-existant. It might be fun to incorporate a page here in the vein of the New York Daily News or Post page 6 that is the celebrity gossip page; however, we must keep in mind that we do not want to turn-off any of our potential customers by using humor that is hurtful or offensive.

"The Current State of OUr Story " Kevin, Jymisha , Crystal

Title the reason why we don't like the title page is because its too bland & its similar to last years yearbook design we would like something new and refreshing .

We like the administrators page because it includes our principals picture as well as other pictures of different activities done in the school which takes up space so that it wouldn't be so much left over space on the page.

We didn't really like that the "Back to School" page was right after the administrators page we felt that the staffs pictures should have went right after the principals photo's so that everything would be kept in order.

Us as a group decided that we did like the ''Teachers gone Wild page because it included the many activities that the teachers participated in and also captures the fun times in metro aside from the serious times we had such as learning.

The "Work In Progress" page didn't really catch our attention because we feel that theres still work to be done and the page is very bland and needs more pictures and "oomf".

We really liked page 11 because it captured a very fun time in Metro where everyone came together as one despite any drama and had fun!

The ideas we talked about with Ms. Alfano was good we got a good idea of what we want in the yearbook and the only thing we got to do is put it all together but besides that we going to do good on this yearbook
